Panos graduated from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh) in 2006. During his studies was actively involved in conservation projects in Greece as field ornithologist and wildlife rescuer/rehabilitator. After a rotating internship in Small Animal Surgery/Exotics at the same University, he moved in Zurich at the Clinic for Exotic Pets, Zoo Animals and Wildlife (UZH, Vetsuisse Faculty) and gained his doctoral thesis on surgical methods/physical therapy of avian luxations. He practiced small animal/exotic animal medicine in Athens/Greece for one year. Then he completed an ECZM Avian Residency at the Clinic for Birds & Reptiles, University of Leipzig, Germany and after exams awarded his EBVS Specialist status in 2014. As Diplomate he worked in Germany as primary and referral exotic animal practitioner, consulting parrot and other avian/reptilian professional and hobby breeders, served as the Head of Exotic Animal Department of a veterinary hospital, treating all exotics, local European wildlife and rotated for a short period in Krefeld Zoo. Since 2015 he is based in Dubai Falcon Hospital/Wadi Al Safa Wildlife Center to provide medical care of hunting falcons, exotic bird/reptiles/mammals and captive wildlife of the Royal Family of Dubai. Additionally serves as volunteer vet to the oldest turtle rehab center (Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project). In 2023 he became a member of RCVS and recognized as Diplomate in Zoo and Wildlife Medicine (Dip ZooMed).
Panos has been an experienced academic tutor in various faculties (Leipzig, Helsinki, Nairobi, UAE) while has given multiple on-line CPD webinars and conference talks in American, European and Asian conferences. He was the organizer of the Exotic Animal Stream of the Middle East African Conference (MEAVC 2021-2023). Panos has authored book chapters and publications on avian medicine, exotic animal medicine, wildlife diseases, marine turtle medicine and vulture/raptor/wildlife conservation.
He is member of the ECZM Education Committee, the AAV Wildlife Conservation Committee, the IUCN Wildlife Health Specialist/Vulture Specialist and Pelican Specialist Groups, the IAF Welfare Group, the Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Ornithological Society, the Board of the Hellenic Falconry Association while is consulting voluntarily different rehab centers and wildlife NGOS
